THE SUSSEX WEALD AND THE VILLAGE OF CLAYTON
Some years ago, friends of mine were moving house, relocating north and wanting a lasting reminder of their old home in Mid Sussex. I was very happy to be commissioned to paint these famous Sussex landmarks, locally known as Jack & Jill Windmills which overlook the village of Clayton and the Sussex Weald. I opted to visit the site on the South Downs in the early spring with my camera in a bright clear day and set out to capture the exposed nature of the hillside with its bare trees and flowering gorse bordering the fields. The resulting photos were then used as a basis for the painting which now takes pride of place in their home.
